Unit 10: Final Blog - Summary

1. Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas . How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?

PHYSICAL WELL-BEING
From Unit 3, I rated myself at a 7. For Unit 10, I have raised it to an 8 because I feel better about my physical activity, but I am not at a 10 because I still have my eating habits to work on.

SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING
In Unit 3, I rated my spiritual well-being at a 6. Because of learning how to connect with my innerself in this class, for Unit 10 I have raised it to an 8. I feel more connected with the universe and with God. I still have much improvement on saying more fervent prayers and giving gratitude to the Lord.

PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING
In Unit 3, I rated my psychological well-being at a 6 also, but I have learned to heal from the inside out and have been able to take myself off medication that made me feel depressed. I now have control of my emotions and rate myself in Unit 10 at a 9.

2. Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.

PHYSICAL
Unit 3: My physical goals are to improve my stamina, strength, flexibility, and balance, and improve my diet.
Unit 10: I have definitely improved my physical wellbeing with my exercise, but I still need to improve my commitment of healthy eating habits.

SPIRITUAL
Unit 3: For my spiritual well-being, I will increase my faith and meekness.
Unit 10: I have definitely had to increase my faith with life challenges that have happened, and I feel that I have become meeker.

PSYCHOLOGICAL
Unit 3: My psychological goal is to reduce my stress.
Unit 10: Ha Ha Ha, how does one reduce stress? I have learned that when I have let go of one thing that stresses me out, I have more focus on another. I have been able to handle my stressors better, so they don’t affect me as much.

3. Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.

PHYSICAL
Unit 3: To improve my stamina, I will run 2 miles every day. To increase my strength and balance, I will exercise to my Insanity DVD Monday through Saturday. To increase my flexibility, I will stretch for ten minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night. To help me with my diet, I will use my account at MyPyramid Tracker to help with tracking the balance of my meals. This will insure that get all that I need nutritionally. I will also implement the Lemonade Diet the first weekend of every month to help cleanse my body.
Unit 10: My goals in this area changed greatly. Because of time and moving, I didn't run everyday, but I did aerobics 5 days a week. I failed at using MyPyramid to keep track of my eating and calories.

SPIRITUAL
Unit 3: To reach my spiritual goal of increasing my faith, I will pray more diligent and more frequently. I will include a family prayer where I can help my children feel safer and increase their faith as well. I will also feast more in the Lord’s scriptures and listen or read other uplifting music, talks, books, and magazines. To help me become meeker, I will use a calmer voice to talk to my kids when I get frustrated with them. I will use the practices I learned from my Parenting with Love and Logic class.
Unit 10: I have done well in implementing these activities in bringing and keeping the Spirit in my home.

PSYCHOLOGICAL
Unit 3: For reducing my stress, I will prioritize my activities and get rid of those that are unnecessary and waste my time. I will use time management to get my school work done early in the day so I can give my husband and children my undivided attention in the evenings. Also by using the deep breathing technique, I will learn to breathe through my frustrations and take the time to really assess my thoughts and actions.
Unit 10: I buckled down and was able to achieve time management and feel less stressed in the evenings. Things are much quieter and lovely when there is peace. The peace I have learned starts with me; If mom ain't happy, no one's happy"

4. Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your ability to assist others?
I really feel that this class has steered me in the health and wellness profession I want to work in. I have a great desire to help others to feel connected with their inner self so that they can heal and get over anything troubling them. This class has helped me to find myself, so now that I have done that, I will be able to help others do the same. The things we have learned have taught me that being a wellness coach does not have to be black and white, there are many aspects to healing and many resources available. I can use more than one aspect to help someone heal, but we have to identify where the problem generates; physical, emotional, or chemical. I am grateful that I was able to learn how to use spiritual healing because that is very important to me and in my life.
